With it being almost a year since my dad has passed I have had this terrible worry on my heart...I lay in bed at night and wonder did he go to heaven. He was never a religious man growing up. He did go to church with us when asked and did say my grandpa was in a better place with "the Good Ole Lord" but other than that he didn't talk about God to us or as far as I know accept God into his heart.
The night that he died, laying there unconscious, I said over and over in his ear please accept God into your heart. I am not sure if he even heard me.
On Friday night I laid in bed listening to my husband snoring and just thinking about it....did he really go to Heaven. What if someone asks right as they are going...do they automatically go...even if they didn't live their life for the Lord? All these questions went through my head and I fell asleep. I woke up at 3:16am and looked at the clock and thought of John 3:16..."For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life"
I am almost certain this was God talking to me confirming my dad did go to heaven! My goal is to live the rest of my life letting/showing my kids how much I believe. I will be seeing my dad in heaven one day!!

A few things about me...

*I thought I could never love like I love my husband...then I had kids.

*My kids are my world...they drive me crazy at times but I am totally smitten over them!

*My son Gibby is attached to my hip...I am starting to think he is God's way of reminding me to take more time for my kids....hug, cuddle, rock them while they still want to.

*My daughter Elsey is one of the funniest kids I know...I think Joe and I were so bored without her

* If I didn't do photography I'd like to go to school to be a medical assistant

*I can't stand when my kids room is a disaster and make them clean up before nap and before bedtime...if we have a busy day and they don't I clean it when they are sleeping.

*I gave up Mt. Dew almost two years ago and crave it almost every day

*I almost always feel like I don't spend enough quality time with my kids

*I pray almost on a nightly basis to have a dream or some kind of an interaction with my dad again

*my favorite thing to photograph is a family

Family sessions

Family is like a picture, treasure it and hold onto it forever...

I think this is more and more real for me especially since my dad has died. I hold onto every
memory I can seem to remember of him. Although it has only been almost a year since his passing with each day going by so fast I feel like I have lost the detail of some of those memories.

One thing I am so thankful for is the images I did capture of my dad. I look back at those pictures and begin to remember him like it was yesterday. I love that feeling. Just like he's frozen in time.

I was once asked what my favorite session to capture is and I would have to say hands down... family. I love that for one hour I am surrounded by peer love. I get a peek into your lives and see what's really in your heart.

Sometimes I have those sessions where the parents are really nervous...thinking "what if my kids don't behave", "what if I look like a fool in front of the camera", "what if she thinks we are weird"...I try to get that all out of the way in the beginning. With about the first 5 minutes of my photography if anyone should be worried that they look like a fool it's me. I'm usually making crazy noises, jumping around, playing crazy games...I let my guards down. Also, I know kids...they might not behave and who cares lets have fun anyway! Really I think that helps me gain the trust of families and let them know I am "real".

I like to get a few of the family sitting and smiling...those are nice for cards, prints for relatives and a wall print but then I wanna play. I want people to share w/ me their love. I want their children to look back in 10, 15, 20 years and feel that love they felt on that day.

Sometimes I feel people get so caught up with their location that they forget what we are photographing. A nice location is great but really give me you and your family in a grassy field playing and showing love. That is what I am most concerned about is capturing your family as you are now.

I went to a conference this year when a photographer commented to remember that most families just had an argument on the way to pictures...the man didn't want to get his pictures taken and wear that outfit, the kids are ticked b/c they don't wanna do this and the wife is ticked b/c no one cares....so true I get it. I just hope when someone gets out of the car for my shoot all those "ticked off" feelings soon subside and they leave with smiles thinking "wow that was fun!"

HER Conference

I just got back from the HER photography conference this week and listened to some amazing photographers...I mean AMAZING. Not just amazing work their personalities were amazing too!

My brain is full of thoughts of what I want to do differently w/ my business, what I wanna keep the same, what I wanna improve on and so on but the main thing sitting in that conference is when I look at life I need to put my family back to #1. I think too often it's easy for me to try very hard to make my clients happy by either trying to edit during times I should be w/ my children, taking phone calls during our sit down meals, editing until all hours while my husband sits alone on the couch, give up going places together b/c I need to work. I am not saying that I should only do photography when I feel like it but I am making set business hours I can stick to. I am only checking emails, returning phone calls, getting on FB from 12-2 & 8-10pm. I have too often let these things consume my family life. I will be a much better parent, wife and photographer. I hope all my clients understand.

Every night after bath, books and prayers Gibson goes over and kissed Elsey good night. I love how his little 18 month old body bends down to kiss her right where she is at. Without following these new business hours I could of missed this moment.......

Oh my I haven't blogged since July...I didn't even know it had been that long. Well since July my life has been a big more crazy. Some of the things that have been keeping me busy...

1. The most heart breaking news....my laptop crashed loosing a clients images that were only given a sneak peek. Luckily they are uber kind and have forgiven me and I will do everything in my power to make it up to them! I also am looking for a studio...I'd like the Lake Odessa, MI area for my budget but don't think that will happen. So fingers crossed something falls into place there. I'd like the studio for newborns & small children. I am not sure if I'd do any family in there just b/c of the lighting issues. I go back and forth but lately feel I need to "bump" it up w/ photography and am just in this weird funk!

2. Elsey starts preschool on Monday and also back into the swing of dance again. She is super excited & can't wait to see everyone especially the boys but hopes they don't "hang up w/ her" aka: break up;) She is such a great big sister. She is truly kind, polite, very loveable and wears her heart on her sleeve. We are so thankful for her!

3. Gibson is growing like a weed. Everyday he does new and cute things. He is still stuck like glue to me but I am managing w/ it. I taught both my kids sign but Elsey at a very young age and Gibson just started when he was 12months. He knows more and more signs & it's so fun being able to understand him w/out the spoken word yet. He acts very wise for his years.

4. This month will be filled w/ school, dance, story hour at the library, play dates, photography, attending a friends wedding...oh and the typical being a wife, mother, sister, daughter....hope I survive;)

Although I have given up doing weddings through Remember When... I am second shooting for a few local photographers. This is a hard concept for some but basically it means I'd still be sharing the day & taking pictures I just am not in charge of the editing or communicating times/places/etc. I have some great people to recommend if you are interested!;) Here's a few from this weekends wedding in which I was second shooting w/ Emily Goodemoot.

I had the privilege of meeting this family when a great client of mine bought them a gift card. I love meeting a new family! Also....love when they are able to express their love in front of the camera w/ no fears. I always tell people I have one hour to feel & see their love so show it! This family certainly did that and I hope these are the moments they will look back at to fill their hearts w/ joy!

It's been 3 months now since my dad has died. It seems like just yesterday. Every night I go through things that remind me of him. It might be b/c I am so afraid if I don't replay things that I will forget or maybe it's because I feel closer to him thinking of him. If it's not me thinking about how my mom found him that night and those moments he took his last breath it's about the times we had here. I usually will dream about him which is so reassuring. I love being able to interact w/ him just one more time. I miss the days he was here and think over and over what I would of done differently if I would of known that he was going to die on that day. Would of I spend more time with him? Would I of talked to him about how I felt about him? Would of I hugged him tight and told him I loved him? I am not sure how those days would of played out and I never will but I hang on to the days I did have with him.

Baby Abram

I was in aww when I went to Pennock Hospital to meet little Abram!

All these emotions overwhelmed me as I was in the room holding him only hours after his birth. Thinking about how Jenn and I were friends when we were little and drifted far away from each other then years later met up again. When I met Jenn (again) I met her husband Ryan too...her and Ryan were trying for years to have a child of their own.

This saddened me as a friend b/c it felt like I was getting pregnant very easy and to share that news w/ Jenn was difficult. I watched what I said through out my pregnancies & tried to not talk about my children too much just b/c my heart broke for her difficulties. I personally didn't know what it was like to try for years to have a child. I DID know that Jenn & Ryan had faith in God and I would pray at night that God would give them a family and whatever God imagined their family to look like would be perfect. Soon after fostering & adoption, Jenn and Ryan were blessed w/ their son Cardale. He was such a blessing for them! Parenthood was great. They loved every minute of it.

Although their hearts were filled they still wanted another child but after tests, consultations, exams & having Dr's tell them that "it would be a miracle" they could only leave it in God's hands. "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible!" Matthew 19:26

I knew Cardale filled their hearts but I wanted Jenn to feel all those things I had talked about....what it was like to carry a baby in her belly, to feel the baby move, to give birth to a baby. When Jenn told me she was pregnant I was over joyed. I was hopeful that her pregnancy would go good so she could enjoy this experience to it's fullest. She was such a beautiful pregnant woman!

Finally on April 13th she gave birth to Abram Jon! I got the text and immediately started making arrangements to get to the hospital to see them. On the way there I was in tears off and on just thinking of the struggle they had but then God's amazing love. Abram is a true miracle and Jenn's space in her heart just grew bigger to accommodate Cardale and Abram as both are her perfect children! If anyone is deserving it's Jenn and Ryan. I adore Jenn's bravery, desire, dedication and especially her love & faith in the Lord! I am blessed that she calls me a friend.

Pennock

I am yet again amazed when I get the opportunity to photograph a newborn. Pennock has been such a blessing for me.
I remember when my children were first born like yesterday but many of the details have faded as time has passed. My hope is that the people that take advantage of me photographing their babies won't have that problem....they can always look back and remember all those details of their babies first days.If you are delivering at Pennock Hospital please let me know the day you deliver and I will try my hardest to make arrangements to get up there to photograph your baby. I spend about a half in hour in the room and then take the images to the waiting room, edit them and get them on a cd for you to take home. The cd has copyrights released so you are able to do your own printing! The cost is a low $50.00!

Dora-4 weeks

Well tomorrow it will be 4 weeks since my dad passed away....still seems untrue. The one thing that keeps us going each day is seeing the cat Dora that my dad begged Joe to let Elsey have.

Since this summer when this barn cat was born my dad loved her. She would lick his hands and face & just loved my dad too. My dad started asking this summer if we would Elsey have the cat he named Dora (after Dora the Explorer)....I gave in after about the 3rd time my dad asked but Joe was a solid NO! He kept saying we don't want a cat & everything that goes along w/ taking care of a cat.

My dad was persistent every time we saw him he'd ask if Elsey could have Dora. Joe still said NO. I actually remember saying about two weeks before my dad died to Joe "what if this is Dad's dying wish?"....not knowing by any means that a few weeks after that comment my dad would die.

The morning I woke Elsey up to tell her that her "poppie" had died I also told her that before he died I told him that we would take care of "memaw", the farm, the cows & barn cats....Elsey immediately asked if she could go get Dora and bring her home. She ran up to Joe and asked him...he said YES!

So we now have Dora! We love her. She is full of energy and just loves Elsey. She is a garage cat but tries to sneak in the house everyday. I can't help but think this cat was brought to us to help us heal w/ my dad's death. I let her in for a few pictures:)

Last night.....

Please forgive me for jambled thoughts and sentences that probably don't make sense. Last night I got the dreaded call that my dad was headed to the hospital. Anyone knowing me knows the lifestyle I've lived I have prepared myself for this moment but not like this. The dr's said he had lots of bleeding on his brain and he was likely not to live. If he did live it would not be good. He would most likely be in a vegetable state.
That first time seeing my father was one I will never forget. Tubes out of his mouth...machines basically keeping him alive. The nurses said the last thing that goes is his hearing so say all that you can to him. I didn't have long to tell him everything that I've always wanted to say....what were those things? I didn't have them rehearsed. I had thought of them many times when he was alive and well but now can't seem to think of them. The obvious....I loved him, we are here...but the main one was I begged, pleaded to a man who never told us about Jesus, only used God's name in vein & only went to church when invited...."Please put God in your heart". I kept saying that by his ear over and over wondering could he hear me...could he understand all that I was saying through my sobs.
I told him I promised to have my children eat Swans man ice cream (as he kept them fully stocked) & continue to take John Deere Tractor rides. We'd take care of the farm and most importantly take care of "Ma".
This was too early my children hardly had time w/ him. Gibby's only 9 months. Elsey being 3. Dad had recently talked about Gibby riding the tractors this summer, Elsey going fishing, building that dock for her, getting Joe to let Elsey have a kitty Dad named "Dora" just for her. Aww...to do those things. I wish we could.
I often felt he was there with us watching us watch him. I could actually feel "see" him come in the room a few times w/ his Marlbro jean jacket on, smelling like cig. smoke over powered in Perfered Stock Cologne, w/ his limp, smiling, shaking everyone's hands as they gave them a back pat. Oh how my heart smiled. In my older years every time I saw my dad my heart smiled and I had a hard time not having a grin on my face.
We made the decision to take out the breathing tube and it be. That was his true wishes. As we watched his breaths I constantly thought.."he's gone...this is his last"...only to have him take a great big breath once again. About 20 minutes seemed like a lifetime as we watched and I begged God to meet him. Then he was gone. Nurses said he had a strong heart.
I am taking some time off...might be a week...might be a few. I am not sure. Thank you everyone for your thoughts & prayers.

To be busy or not to be busy

So typically January is my "non" busy month. Usually it's the time I am foaming at the mouth to take pictures and feel a bit like a beggar but since it's almost Feb. and I have only done one blog post that is totally not true for 2011. I have not done a blog post b/c I have been still overly busy...it's slowed down a bit from the summer months but not a ton. I am very thankful. I have allowed myself to get a sitter 3 days a week so that I can focus on editing, taxes, sessions 4 hours on those days and as needed on Saturdays that I will stay on top of things. Plus I was feeling like I was not giving my kids and husband 100%. This post is not w/ out a picture or two:)...

I am proud to announce that I have not changed my reprint prices since 2005! I not planning on changing them now either I am however changing a few things for the convenience of my clients. Besides still having my package price of 125.00 w/ 50.00 being in reprints I am adding a few other packages.
I always have a great demand for my "Quick Shots" which seem to fill up so fast when I offer them but have the complaint that I don't offer them enough so I am listening to the demands and offering "Quick Shots" anytime! All you have to do is get 2 or more families to come to the location of your choice (or I will have suggestions) and each will get a 1/2 hour session for 75.00. This includes the cd w/ released copyrights for your own printing.
The other package I am offering is 250.00 the day of the session and it includes the hour session plus the cd of all images w/ released copyrights.I am changing my senior sessions to any of the above sessions instead of having a totally different category for seniors. So if you want to pay 75.00 for your senior session and have a cd get 3 friends together that want the same location and your wish is granted!

Reflecting back at 2010 I can't believe the changes our family has made. I am happy to say we've survived through them:)
Some of the joys we've gone through this year are the birth of our son, Gibson, in April. Although we thought we were done he is such a great addition to our family! We can't imagine our lives without him. God definitely knew that we were missing something we just didn't know it at the time and now that he's here we realized the gap we had without him:)Also, business wise I was asked to display my work at Hastings Pediatrics which is such a blessing. I take my children there and most of the families I photograph take their children there. The Doctors are Amazing & I couldn't imagine if I didn't have them in my life. Love Hastings Ped's!
Another great opportunity that I was given is that I am now taking newborn photo's at Pennock Hospital. This is such a blessing to me as newborn photography is my favorite. I do it right in the hospital room, it takes only about half in hour then I go to the waiting room and edit them so I can bring back a cd for them. It's a trendy twist to those traditional hospital photo's. When I delivered both of my children I went to Pennock and the OB department ROCKS....I just love the nurses up there and they make your stay very comfortable.
I am continuing to displaying work w/ Woman's Health First and wanted to thank them for that opportunity. They also have been such a blessing in my life not only b/c they are displaying my work but also I have used their Doctors to deliver my children....forever thankful for that! Thanks Again Woman's Health First!!Elsey also started preschool which is so wonderful. She absolutely loves it! It also gives me a chance to spend more one on one w/ Gibson which I love. Her teaches say that she is such a helper and a pleasure to have in class.
There's so much to look forward to in the next year and we can't wait. We continue to pray that Joe gets a full time job at an electrical company but until then we will enjoy the family time that we are allowed to have since he is home...plus I don't have to pay a babysitter to do photography:)

Since I am not sure how to even get caught up I've just picked a session out of the blue. I have to say newborns are my favorite to photography although I've been blessed with some awesome people this year!
On this day it was dark and gloomy but nice which allowed us to do pictures on their deck with baby Laura. Later we found out it was a good thing since Laura pooped/peed all over the deck by the time the session was done:) That is what you get with newborns! Both mom and dad were so good with Laura and she was such a good baby to photograph.My days are filled with sessions and editing where I feel like I can't keep up. I've never been so behind in my life but it's a good time. Although my life is about to become a bit crazier as Elsey will start preschool two days a week and dance one night:) We will adjust.Here's a sneak of baby Laura...

Busy Season...

So it's been FOREVER since I've blogged... I know. I have it in the back of my mind as I am shooting and editing. Since I had Gibson I said I would take on no more than 2-3 sessions a week well that 2-3 has happened to be daily not weekly and 5 days a week. Plus this is a really, really busy time with weddings. So the last thing I do is blog just b/c I don't feel like I have time to even breathe. I have decided that I will be just blogging randomly but not that I am not super busy or that I am not in love with a session... just that my goal is getting out galleries right now. Hope everyone can bare with me on this one. I will TRY once a week but we will see. Since a blog isn't a blog post without a picture here's one from June of a cutie Brayden...

We.... well lets say we kind of had a weird beginning...the night she called about wedding details my daughter decided to pick her brother up out of his swing and ended up dropping him!! So I was trying to keep it together and stay calm but it so wasn't happening. I was signing, waving my arms, yelling silently all while trying to listen to all Laura had to say without saying excuse me, MY DAUGHTER JUST DROPPED MY SON!!:) I was able to hand my son off to my husband and go hide in our bedroom until my daughter came in there and sat right beside me saying...Mom, mom, moooom, mom, mom. Oh my gosh I was for sure Laura was thinking this lady is crazy and obviously has WAY too much on her plate:) Well to my surprise Laura and Phil booked me for their wedding coming up. I am so excited b/c I have never done a Thursday wedding and they are super sweet together. Here are some shots to show their love...

I love taking engagement pictures. It gives me an opportunity to meet the bride/groom-to-be and to let them see the silly & goofy side of me so they are not shocked the day of the wedding:) I was so excited to take John and Stephanie's pictures b/c for one Stephanie is knock out gorgeous and for two they had me come to their home which involved an over grown field. Awww...a field of love!:) Here are a few from our evening together:

I met Heather through MOPS (mothers of preschoolers). What a great experience it's been to know her. She is so smart plus she's hilarious:)
When they told me they received a gift certificate for a session I was so glad. They had never had an "official" family session done before. I knew that they wouldn't exactly know what would be in store for them and maybe even be nervous. But when Heather got out of the car she was beaming with excitement. After I gave my talk of what I had planned she was in tears...tears of joy I hope:)And the session started...

Nothing is sweeter than a newborn. I will never get sick of capturing a baby in it's first few days of life. Jack was no exception...he was so adorable. It took a bit for him to want his picture taken but with a little loving from mom & dad and some white noise we were golden. Here are a few shots from our session...

I can't talk much about my sister and how much she means to me without my eyes tearing up so this late at night I won't go there. I will say for anyone that knows me they know that my sister is my best friend. It's really started from a small age... she was my protector when I had fear, person I ran to when I was sad, someone that I could barge in at anytime just to tell how I felt, someone who cleaned up after me, taught me how to take care of myself and most of all she taught me that things that happened in our lives were not things that I needed to carry around...she carried everything for me and I will forever be grateful for that. That's about as far as I can go since my cheeks are already filled with streaming tears...

My sister is now married....finally! She met a wonderful man a little over a year ago and they fell in love. He's everything I could of wanted for my sister and more. This is the best thing that has happened to her and I am so glad to have a great brother in law.Kevin & Tina decided to have a small beach wedding including only my family, his parents and children. The day started out forecasting rain...90%! In the morning I told Tina she might want to change the day to the next day b/c of the rain by the lake shore. She was determined to make it work even if they were to get married in the beach house they rented. The weather ended up holding off all day/night. Kevin & Tina had waited a week to see each other so I wanted the first time to be extra special. Kevin went down to the beach first then Tina met up with him. I loved that they saw each other before the ceremony but still made the moment special. The day couldn't of been more perfect.Here's a preview of their day....

she asked me to go dress shopping with her and I was thrilled. She tried on a gazillion dresses before settling on one. I said let's try just one more and that one was it! She knew it from the first time she tried it on...
Kevin was so sweet he called and asked if he had permission to ask my sister to marry him...ummm...yeah...PLEASE!!:) When he picked out her ring he had them "hold" it until I could look it over and give the approval...

Awww...if that's not the cutest girl you've ever seen! You've probably guessed it she's mine!:)relaxing on the main floor while Tina was getting ready upstairs...

Oh how I love Brock and Kate. Their wedding made me want to get married all over again...with my husband of course! They had a perfect outdoor ceremony on a day that ended up being HOT and humid. Kate thought of every detail for their day. The thing that stands out about Kate and Brocks wedding is it was so them...all the details related to them.I met them last year when I did their engagement pictures...at that time I thought they had another photographer for their wedding. Little did I know they chose me to capture their day...I was thrilled.Brock and Kate were one of the most laid back bride/grooms I have worked with. This was exactly 6 weeks from the time I had delivered my son... Kate was so understanding. I was so thankful for having such a great bride that understood the demands and guilt you have leaving a 6 week old baby:)Here are a few of their day:

Ryon and Erik are married! Ryon called to ask if I would capture a time right after they got married....I was glad they switched the day since I wasn't available the first date they had in mind. Ryon is head over heels for Erik you can see it on her face...the way she smiles at him and when they laugh. Erik is head over heels for Ryon you can see it in the way he looks at her when she's not looking and the smirks they give. I am so glad I get to capture true love.

Oh boy I am not sure I can get through this post without shedding a tear or two.I met Megan through MOPS (mothers of preschoolers). She is one of those people you love to be around & always "seem" happy and chipper. I write "seem" b/c I know that is not always the case but she does a very good job of putting on that front.Megan's husband Mike joined the US Air Force... what a challenge that was for their family. Megan, being the strong woman she is, tried her best to put on that happy & chipper face but sometimes there were those breakdowns which of course how could you not. Just from talking with Megan you can tell that Mike & her children are her world.Megan contacted me about doing a photo shoot with their family when Mike returned....OF COURSE! I was thrilled she asked me. I can't believe I get these great opportunities!This is from Megan's Facebook page. You can just tell the excitment....makes my heart skip a beat.

tonight no pillow will be empty at my house, my toothbrush will share the cup that holds it again, and my laundry will be back to overflowing!! tonight i will get to cook for someone other than a toddler, and my kids will get to wrestle with their hero!!! TONIGHT MY HUSBAND IS HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ♥

We met at a house in Freeport who's owners kindly let us use their property. When Mike and Megan stepped out of the truck they were full of smiles. Just being around them made it feel like I was capturing a wedding with that exciting butterfly feeling. They were so inspirational to watch not only with each other but their girls. Sometimes I think God puts people like this in my life to show me to live again. Not that I go a day without loving my kids and my husband but I think once in a while you need that "pick me up". With all the hussle and bussle life brings I think sometimes you take your life for granted but spending an evening with them made me run home and hug my children tighter and kiss my husband longer.

Missing someone really does make the heart grow fonder. When leaving Megan said they have never got that "itch" ...they love each other more every day. I wanted my photo's to capture that feeling. Hope you are as in love with their session as I am...

I was so excited to be able to help Jenn from Still Cross Photography capture Nathan and Jessica's day not only b/c I LOVE being a second shooter but also b/c I knew I would be seeing a few of my past brides. I knew Jessica's flowers would be out of this world since she does such a good job putting together bouquets and centerpieces for others.
The church was decorated beautiful and their reception was breath taking!! All details thought out perfectly made it look like a dream wedding.Also, they had one of the funniest wedding parties of all time. The guys were hilarious...pulling pranks and teasing each other all day. So in case you've been wondering I have been spending my days filled with changing diapers, feeding, cuddling, chasing a two year old, playing games, napping and last if not "needed" by anyone else I'm editing & blogging:) So obviously my blog will be neglected for a bit but to know I have given my family all I have to give I think it's worth it.
Speaking of families The Casey's are another one of my favorite families to capture. I think I am saying that about more and more lately but it's true. I love spending time with them and they are adding to their family! In August they will be having a baby girl...how perfect is that! Here are a few of our afternoon together.

Baby Cecelia was my first session after delivering Gibson 3 weeks ago. I was excited to get back into photography again. I was amazed when Ronnie told me Baby Cecelia was 9.5lbs when she was born!!! I loved everything about her...her pudgy legs, her lashes, her sweet hair. Her big sister Sofia is such a cutie too! There were a few yawns here and there but never complete shut eye.

Sofia had better things to do besides hanging out with us but she did check in here and there...oh how fast they grow...

The Witts

Introducing Baby Gibson

Well he arrived...baby Gibson Nash has joined our family! He was born April 16th 7lbs, 6oz and 18.5 inches long. He has been nothing but great joy for us.
I have to admit I was really nervous about bringing home a baby. I guess the typically worries like what if I never have time for Elsey, what if I can't love him as much as Elsey, what if I want to pull my hair out b/c it's way too hard being a mom of two but honestly in these 11 days I have felt more content then ever before. I am not sure what it is but he is a great baby which makes it super easy to find time for Elsey and the second I heard his cry I loved him as much as Elsey. I haven't wanted to pull my hair out yet...maybe pull my eye lids open b/c I forgot what getting up every 2 hours for a feeding felt like but besides that nothing unusual.Although Gibson was not planned by us I know it was all in God's plans and his work. I am so happy that sometimes life is not by what you have planned but takes a spin of it's own just to keep you on your toes. Now that Gibson is here I can't imagine our lives without him.
Here are just a few of the pictures I have taken of him...I have to admit it's much harder to take pictures of my own children. I'd like to take many more of them.**I will be returning to photography in about 3 weeks and am booked most weekends until August already. Through the week I do have some availability and look forward to capturing more memories! Mandy and I had been playing phone tag for a couple of months before we were able to really connect about her newborn session. I couldn't believe it when I got the phone call that she was leaving the hospital that day and wondered if I was available to take pictures in the next week!!! I usually do my newborn shoots within the first 10 days but have never had a family call the day they were going home from the hospital:) It was great...I was able to call her that day and set something up for the following week!

I was so excited when I found out one of my 2009 couples were pregnant!! I also was excited when they had asked me to take his first pictures. I love when I am able to capture engagement, wedding then the babies that follow:)

Oh what more can I say about Trey besides he has so many funny faces, he's a blast to be around, he is full of energy....I could go on and on. I have fallen in love with Trey. From the time I met him he was never into my jokes or me trying to get him to laugh so it was (at first) hard for me but basically I have learned to let Trey take over the show. With that he gives me way more than I can pull out of any other kid:) Trey reminds me that I need to take more pictures of my Elsey and capture all those faces, expressions and cute things she does before she's a teen and no longer wants me around:) Here are a few we took on Trey's birthday...what a ham!

As I am trying to get this post done for 3 days now I am wondering how come I am so behind....maybe it's b/c I am a mom of an active 2 year old, I am due in 6 weeks and freaking out that we don't have everything we need for a newborn again, I am trying to take the time to spend with my husband that is very much needed, I am still doing 2 to 3 sessions per week, I have limited amount of time to edit pictures especially a wedding that ends up having 800 images for them to keep....or maybe I just make life too busy:) It's probably b/c I just pack way too much in a day!

Anyhow, long over due but Scott and Heather were married in Feb. It was so great b/c it kicked off my 2010 wedding season and it was a beautiful winter wedding. The colors were great with the winter snow and the details were fab. Without jabbering anymore here are a few of my fav's from their day:

I was so inspired when I met Renee and her family. She contacted me through email asking me to come to their home to capture their new baby girl...little did I know they have 6 children! So honestly I was thinking how do they do it? When I watched them interact with their children they were so calm, quiet and polite and their children were calm, quiet and polite. The children had a few spats while I was there but totally expected having 8 people live in the same space. It just amazed me. I can see why God gives so many children to such people....they are so deserving. You can tell Renee was meant to be a mom. It made me go home and think... wow, some days I wonder how I can make it through the day with one child let alone having 6. Such an inspiration!

Sweet Baby Logan

I met Nicole in MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) last year. She was my table leader and is so inspirational. She had 4 boys at the time and already then I was thinking...how does she do it? I felt so silly complaining about my bad days, lack of sleep, no time when I only had 1 and she already had 4. I had the privilege of taking their pictures a few times... and also wondering how does she have such well behaved children?. Now if I didn't already think she was such an incredible person she's had her 5th...boy! Still I think...how does she do it but when you spend time with her she is just natural. She laughs, plays and just has eyes of admiration for each of them. She is truly amazing and I felt so blessed to be able to spend some time with them when their 5th arrived:) Here's a few of my fav's:

A perfect winter day for a perfect couple! Julie & Dan were a great couple to work with and I am so excited for their outdoor wedding! When I first met with them I thought maybe Dan would be super shy in front of the camera but he was so not. He just loves Julie so much it truly shows. He didn't mind kissing and hugging on her during the session which is totally great for a photographer:) They have a great connection and our time spent together was full of laughs. This is one of my all time Favorite family's to photograph. I have had tons of opportunities to capture precious times in their lives and I am so thankful. Even when it started out with just Kristi and Josh while pregnant with their first...I took their maternity pictures and ended up loving how they interact in front of the camera. Her mom had called me wondering where I did pictures in the winter since I don't have a studio so we brainstormed some idea's of nice, warm indoor locations. We met at the FM Garden's in GR. We arrived early so it wasn't busy and of course it's breath taking no matter the month. Here are a few fav's of Sofia:

Jackson

Oh how I loved hanging out with Jackson:) His mom asked me to come to their home to capture Jackson and she had said they never had professional pictures taken of Jackson b/c he usually cried the whole time. Well Jackson was loads of fun for the time I spent with him and his cheeks are so cute I just wanted to pinch them. Plus he sits with his legs crossed...how cute is that!?! Here's the cutie patootie 9month old...

New Year.New goals.New Hard decisions

Today is New Years Eve a time to reflect on the past year. A time to get geared for the year to come. A new Year with new goals and a whole lot of hard decisions to be made.

This year has been full of trials for my family. My husband has been unemployed more than employed. It's been very hard which I know many people are going through the same thing and even in worse situations. Although we feel at wits end with his lack of jobs it's been my busiest year with photography yet! This is a great thing for me but then again it was leading me to pray & worry about next year. Where would I find the time, how would I be able to manage and not be stressed & most of all would I still be a good mom?

Although I love being busy I also have a 2 year old daughter and one on the way. My ultimate goal is to be a good mommy and a great wife b/c let's face it after all when I look back in 10 years how many sessions I've done it's nothing compared to the memories I've made and created for my family. So that's why I've made the decision that I will only be taking a limited amount of sessions for 2010. My limited amount of weddings for 2010 are already filled and I've been turning some away which breaks my heart but also I know it's right for me and my family right now.

I've spent countless nap times editing pictures and countless nights until wee hours trying to get albums, posts, emails, editing caught up. This also brings the tired days keeping up with a two year old and trying to not feel guilty when I ask a sitter to watch her so I can get things done. It's really put a strain on me, my family and my marriage. I want to be able to devote a very large amount of my time to my children & husband without a regret.

So as hard as it is I am hoping my clients understand and know that I have an important role to fill right now and that's being a mom.

On another note....the real reason I have blog readers:)....

I met the Tiffany's family & her sister Lindsey with her husband Mark at a park in Lowell. The day was getting colder but the session went great! Here are a few of my fav's:

Brock + Kate + Chester

I met Brock and Kate through Erica (her hair dresser) which I did my previous post about...funny how that works:) We met at a park in Caledonia. We had a good time and I was able to meet their dog Chester...who might I say is not a camera ham:) Laid back...yes, calm...yes, great dog...yes but not up in my face to get it's pictures taken:) Chester will be one of their ring bears.....aw:)

I couldn't decide which one's to choose b/c I had a great time with them...their love is so cute! Oh and the super great thing is when she saw the gallery of their pictures they decided to book me for their wedding photographer and I just happened to be available.....

What don't I love about this session!?! I love the still fall air, love the family, love the interaction they had in front of the camera and love the moments I was able to capture.
I met Erica when I shot her and Nick's wedding this summer since then I have come to know her and was so excited to take her family pictures this fall.

I met up with Ann, Tal and Reece for their family pictures in Lake O. It was so nice to take their pictures again. I have taken their pictures since Reece was born. He is close in age to my daughter Elsey and this is my favorite age so far:) Plus along with Elsey, Reece is one of the funniest kids I know:) His facial expressions are priceless! Here are a few of our afternoon together.

Austin Senior

I met up with Austin and his mom for his senior pictures. I was thrilled she asked me b/c a few years back I also shot Austin's brothers senior pictures. I love to work with families over and over. My sister finally found the man she is going to marry! What an exciting time for her but also our whole family. She has always been someone I looked up to. We always wanted her to meet someone that would treat her with kindness and she always ended up with the "Bad" guys. It was frustrating & sad. When she met Kevin her whole world changed...she finally saw what it was like to be loved unconditionally, not argue and fight, not have to deal with all the left over baggage that others were hauling behind. My husband and I sighed with relief when we met Kevin. I say this a ton but it is so true...I use to pray that God would send a nice, christian man for my sister and when I met Kevin I knew he was the one God sent:) Anyhow, I could go on for days, weeks and months about how great of a person my sister is and how proud I am that she has found someone just as great but it's a post not a novel:) Here are some pictures of my sisters session before she got engaged.
Kevin and Tina had an "alone" session the week prior to having a "family" session. I'd like to share more pictures but my computer is acting up!!

Then we did a "family" session which was great b/c along with Kevin comes his two wonderful kids. That is what just what they are too. You should hear all the great things my sister says about them and how much they also have touched her life!
